Dana's Bio

Dana Lewenthal is a popular comedic actress, leading lady, and singer known for her quick wit, intelligent approach, and rich vocal quality.

A San Francisco Bay Area native, Dana grew up with an acute appreciation for the arts, always looking forward to the family outings to museums, the symphony, and theatre. A natural musician, she learned piano at age five and picked up the saxophone in grammar school. Dana performed in dozens of plays, musicals, and concerts throughout her childhood, before attending the University of California at Berkeley.

After a bout with college-level calculus, Dana set her eye on an acting class—her first formal training to complement her previous theatrical experience. After one semester, she knew she had found her life's work. Dana studied acting for a year in England and completed her BA in Theatre with Honors and a Minor in Music. In her first post-university production, Dana played Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

She worked in numerous productions and earned a Shellie nomination for her work in Groucho, A Life in Revue. Dana attended the graduate program at The Theatre School, DePaul University; a landmark conservatory in Chicago. She performed a season at The Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival playing six roles including the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet.

After completing her MFA in Acting, Dana was immediately spotted by Warner Crocker to star in Overland. Never complacent, she performed in 10 productions over the next two years, playing the war-torn cellist in the Midwest premier of Pentecost and inspiring laughter in a six-month run with the original Tony 'N Tina's Wedding in Chicago.

Dana returned to California to marry her college sweetheart and settled quickly into her West Coast career. Favorite roles include Amanda in Private Lives, Jenifer in Snakebit, Liz Imbrie in High Society, and Pomposia in By Jupiter! Dana also spent a winter in Ashland performing in 'Tis the Season with Oregon Cabaret Theatre. She recently understudied Frosine in Theatre de la Jeune Lune's acclaimed production of The Miser at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

She currently resides in Oakland, California with her husband and son.
