Dana's Philosophy

"My close friend Dana Lewenthal teaches a Monologue class that is so positive and interactive that I wish everyone could work with her. If you or someone you know is looking for an inexpensive and SAFE
environment in which to work, then contact Dana immediately. She is one of the most capable and talented actresses I have ever met."

It's time to raise the bar of professionalism among actors. It's as simple as this: acting is a business, and our headshots, resumes, auditions, rehearsal demeanor, relationships and behavior must be professional.

I have worked with seasoned actors who have been late to rehearsals, were unprepared, and gave up on a performance due to "second-night let down." I have also worked with fledgling players who were patient, observed, asked questions, smiled and felt enriched by the theatre around them. It has become very clear to me that "professional" has very little to do with whether you are union or non-union, a beginner or experienced performer, but much more to do with attitude, presence, behavior, and preparation.

Why is there such a discrepancy between professional behavior in the business world and that on the stage? Perhaps because paid work is so rare, the expectations to behave like a professional are lowered. I resolutely disagree. The number of actors who show up for an audition far outweigh the number of applicants for any single position in the business world. The more we get our acts together, the more the whole industry will benefit. If we prove we are worth more, watch how much better not only our pay rates will be, but also how well we are treated.

Creativity is not an excuse for lethargy.

"Dana's presence and energy are always so positive. Beyond being an actor, director, singer and coach, she is a CHAMPION in the world for performers. Her encouragment is making a real difference in the Bay Area theatre community."

- Carole Swann

I run my acting business like a business. I started my coaching business to teach actors to own their careers, take responsibility for their goals, and create strong non-union and union professionals. Ultimately, I want casting directors to be unable to tell whether and actor is union or non-union when they see an audition. There should be no difference in behavior or artistry, just in our audition slot.

I welcome questions, and if I don't know the answer, I will search for it. One of my friends calls me "The Go-To Gal." If it helps you get a job, make a connection, focus on a goal, or provide clarification, I'm happy.

My job is to support your goals, and your career. Together, let's create an industry of professionals dedicated to dependability, talent, and achievement.
